Manuel Consigli – The Circle of Excellence

Italian jazz guitarist Manuel Consigli has developed a distinctive artistic path that combines solo jazz guitar performance with a deep commitment to jazz education. Alongside his activity as a performer, he is known in Italy for developing the Circle of Excellence, a conceptual map for the artistic development of jazz musicians.

Over the years Manuel has explored the expressive possibilities of the guitar as a complete instrument, weaving melody, harmony, bass lines and rhythm into a single musical voice. His playing seeks a balance between the tradition of classic jazz guitar and a personal search for clarity, musical storytelling and expressive freedom.

Alongside his performing activity, Manuel is the founder of the Guitar Mindfulness Jazz Academy, an online school dedicated to jazz improvisation, harmony and artistic development. He is also the author of The Secret Map of the Happy Guitarist and editor of the new edition of Didactic Studies for Jazz Guitar by Filippo Daccò, published by Edizioni Curci and listed among the “20 Greatest Jazz Books” by Jazzit Magazine. Through this work, he continues the pedagogical legacy of the Italian jazz guitar master.

In his pedagogical work, Manuel has developed the Circle of Excellence, a conceptual map that brings together the essential skills of jazz musicianship — including rhythm, harmony, musical language, creativity, communication, repertoire, performance, ear–instrument connection, technique and the chord–scale system — into an integrated vision of musical development. Rather than following a linear progression of levels, the model proposes an organic and circular approach to study, where the connection between these skills becomes a key to artistic growth and to the discovery of one’s own musical voice.

As a performer, Manuel focuses on solo jazz guitar as well as small ensemble settings that emphasize listening, interplay and musical dialogue. Martin Taylor’s work has been an important reference in his approach to solo jazz guitar, particularly his polyphonic approach to the instrument. Manuel also maintains a long-standing collaboration with guitarist Renato Pompilio in the Guitar Interplay Duo, a project centered on the art of interaction between two guitars. Manuel performs on a Martin Taylor Joya by Fibonacci Guitars
