The Fibonacci Guitars Floating Tailpiece

We were recently asked what method we use to fit our floating tailpiece to our guitars. So thought we would share some detailed pictures here if any builders are looking for a solution.
The hinge itself is 6mm thick powdered coated mild steel with one leg attached to the ebony tailpiece via a 2mm brass rod. We then fit an ebony cap over the tailpiece hinge to hide the unsightly screws and the larger hole is where the strap button is fitted.
The minimum thickness of the ebony where the hinge fits is 10mm which is sufficient mass to ensure the ebony does not fail from the string tension (we know because we tested it). The ebony then slims down to about 5mm where the brass earth plate is fitted and where the string ball ends are attached. This thickness ensures there is enough distance from the arched top of the guitar to the underside of the string ball ends. The result is a robust yet elegant light weight design.
We will publish more information on the benefits of floating tailpieces in the not too distant future!
